Creating a live festival activation for Bell around audience participation

CC&Co created the Bell Social Media Tower, a live festival activation where audience posts, private submissions and moderated UGC appeared on large screens in real time. Questology powered the aggregation, moderation and display layer.

A national telecom brand, live festival crowds, public screens, private submissions, UGC moderation and real-time display under brand-safe control.

The challenge

Open participation, national-brand control

A festival crowd creates energy; public screens demand discipline. Bell wanted an activation that invited people in rather than another wall of sponsorship signage, but every post had to move through moderation, private submissions had to work smoothly under crowd conditions, and the screens had to stay visually controlled for a national telecom brand the entire event.

The experience had to feel open to the audience and locked down underneath, at the same time, in the middle of FEQ-scale crowds.

The strategic insight

The audience is the media layer

The activation was built on a simple mechanic: festivalgoers' own content becomes the brand environment. A post or private submission moves from phone to moderation to public screen, and the brand presence turns from static display into live exchange. Seeing your own content go up on a festival screen makes participation tangible in a way no banner can.

CC&Co designed that audience-facing experience end to end. Questology made it operational, collecting, filtering and preparing selected UGC for display in real time.

What CC&Co created

Screen experience and creative direction

Branded display behaviour, visual rhythm and content structure that made the tower read as a Bell experience rather than a generic screen wall.

Physical-gallery logic and deployment

The connection between digital participation and the physical activation space, plus the deployment structure that kept everything running in live festival conditions.

The Questology engine

Questology powered the live content system: public social aggregation, private submission handling, moderation workflow and real-time preparation of selected content for the large screens.

Impact

Bell gained a live public presence inside major festival environments with real audience behaviour at its center. Festivalgoers saw their own content become part of the event, and the brand got participation, visibility and screen quality inside one controlled system.

For CC&Co, the tower is proof of live activation at public scale: event strategy, digital signage, UGC systems, brand-safe moderation and deployment working together for a national brand. Activations like this succeed when the public role, the screen behaviour, the moderation flow and the physical environment are designed as one piece.

Frequently asked questions

1.What was the Bell Social Media Tower?

A live festival activation created by CC&Co for Bell where audience posts, private submissions and moderated UGC appeared on large screens in real time, deployed at festivals including FEQ and Francofolies.

2.What did Questology power?

The live content engine: social aggregation, private submissions, moderation workflow, UGC selection and the real-time display system feeding the screens.

3.Why was moderation central to the project?

Public screens carrying audience content for a national telecom brand cannot improvise. The moderation layer let Bell invite open participation while keeping every displayed item brand-safe.

4.Why does this project matter for live events?

It shows an activation where audience behaviour, screen systems, moderation and brand experience run as one system, designed and deployed by the same team.

Where this work connects

when the crowd became Bell's live content

The Bell Social Media Tower had to make sponsorship feel active inside a festival crowd.

People were already posting. They were taking photos, reacting to performances, tagging friends and trying to attach themselves to the moment. The opportunity was to give that behavior a physical destination.

The tower turned audience content into a visible public layer. Bell's presence was no longer limited to signage around the event. It became part of the live conversation, filtered and displayed at festival scale.

That created a different kind of challenge. The system had to feel immediate without becoming chaotic. It had to protect the brand without killing the energy of the crowd. It had to be readable from a distance, clear enough for people walking by, and strong enough to support content that changed all day.

CC&Co shaped what the audience saw and understood. Questology made the live content system work behind the screen.

What we learned: sponsorship gets stronger when the audience has a role, but participation needs structure before it becomes public.

Audience participation needs both energy and control.
